Further Extension of Lockdown(LockDown3.0)?


The Centre has extended the nationwide lockdown, put in to contain the coronavirus outbreak, by two more weeks. It was set to end this Sunday may3rd  but now it has been pushed to May 17.

"After a comprehensive review, and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) issued an Order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, today, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020," said a home ministry notification.


The extension will however see some relaxations which will be regulated based on the spread of the virus in the districts, identified as red (hotspot), green and orange zones.

The green zones are districts with either zero confirmed cases till date; or, no confirmed case in the last 21 days. The classification of districts as red zones will  take into account the total number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases, extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts. Those districts, which are neither defined as Red nor Green, shall be classified as Orange zones.


Types Of Zones:-

1.Red Zone:-A red zone is an area where the no corona positive cases are more and increases rapidly as compared to other zone.In this zone the percentage of Recovered less as compared to percentage of affected.It not a safe region so in this type of particular region further lockdown is applicable in a strong manner and all activity are restricted until further announcement.
What is allowed in this Particular region(with social distancing and restrictions):-






  • Movement of individuals and vehicles with a maximum of 2 persons (besides the driver) in four-wheeler vehicles, and with no pillion rider in the case of two-wheelers.
  • Special Economic Zones, Export Oriented Units , industrial estates and industrial townships
  • Manufacturing units of essential goods, including drugs, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, their raw materials
  • Manufacturing of IT hardware
  • Jute industry with staggered shifts and social distancing.
  • manufacturing units of packaging material.
  • Construction activities limited to in-situ construction (where workers are available on site).
  • All standalone (single) shops, neighborhood (colony) shops and shops in residential complexes.
  • E-Commerce activities only in respect of essential goods.
  • Private offices can operate with upto 33% strength .
  • All Government offices
  • Food-processing units
  • All agriculture activities.
  • All plantation activities
  • All health services (including AYUSH)
  • Banks, non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), insurance and capital market activities.
  • Public utilities.

  • 2.Orange  Zone:-A orange zone is an area where the number of corona case not as much as red zone and it is in moderate level.In this zone number of affected and number of recovered is in moderate and in control level.It is moderate safe zone means some restriction is allowed on this region.
    What is allowed in this Particular region(with social distancing and restrictions):-
    In addition to activities permitted in Red Zone, taxis and cab aggregators will be permitted with 1 driver and 1 passenger only. Inter-district movement of individuals and vehicles will be allowed for permitted activities only. Four wheeler vehicles will have maximum two passengers besides the driver and pillion riding will be allowed on two-wheelers.
    3.GreenZone:-A green zone an area where no corona case were found or else no corona outbreak at that particular region.so it is a safe zone.So this zone is free from all restriction.
    What is allowed in this Particular region(with social distancing and restrictions):-All activities are permitted except opening of schools, colleges, restaurants, large gatherings and malls. Buses can operate with up to 50% seating capacity and bus depots can operate with up to 50% capacity. All goods traffic is to be permitted. No separate pass of any sort is needed for such movement. Ecommerce for non-essentials and liquor sale are allowed.

    Highlights of the New List of Red/Orange/Green Zones

    - 130 districts are designated as Red Zone, 284 as Orange Zone and 319 as Green Zone.
    - Districts will be classified as a Green Zone if there is no COVID-19 positive case in last 21 days.
    - Red Zone: Almost all the Metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad are identified as Red Zones or Coronavirus Hotspots.
    - Districts designated as Green Zone: 20 in UP, 25 in Chhattisgarh, 24 in Madhya Pradesh, 25 in Arunachal Pradesh, 21 in Odisha, and 10 in Uttarakhand

    - Districts designated as Orange Zone: 16 in Maharashtra, 36 in UP, 20 in Bihar, 19 in Rajasthan, 15 in Punjab, 24 in Tamil Nadu, 19 in Madhya Pradesh
    - The maximum number of districts under Green Zone fall in Assam, that is 30 districts.
    - Haryana's Gurugram fall under Orange Zone, whereas Faridabad is in Red Zone.
    - Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Hapur, Baghpat, Shamli fall under Orange Zone.
