  Union HRD Minister launches ‘Bharosa’ to help students in distress:-
  • Union Minister for Human Resource Development launched Central University of Odisha (CUO) Helpline 'Bharosa' to relieve distress of students during the difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Helpline Number 080 46 80 10 10 was launched through a virtual platform in New Delhi.
  • The helpline aims at providing Cognitive Emotional Rehabilitation Services to all University Students of Odisha.
  • The programme was coordinated by Vice Chancellor, Prof I Ramabrahmam, CUO.

CSIR-NAL develops Non-Invasive Ventilator to treat COVID-19 patients:-
                    
  • CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) Bangalore has developed Non-Invasive ‘BiPAP’ Ventilator in a record time of 36 days to treat COVID-19.
  • This ventilator is a microcontroller-based precise closed-loop adaptive control system with “3D printed manifold & coupler” and HEPA Filter.
  • It is certified for safety and performance by NABL accredited agencies.
  • It is cost effective, compact, and configured with majority of indigenous components.
 MP Home Minister launches ‘FIR Aapke Dwar Yojana’:-
  • Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narottam Mishra launched 'FIR Aapke Dwar Yojana' in Bhopal.
  • MP is the 1st state in the country to implement this scheme.
  • Under this, people can lodge FIR by dialing 100 without visiting police station.
  • It is a pilot project in 23 Police Stations including 1 urban and 1 rural at 11 Divisional Headquarters.
  • The Minister also launched helpline 'Dial 112' to facilitate immediate availability of ambulance, police and fire fighting services.
 Jharkhand Education Dept & Doordarshan launched online classes for students:-
  • Jharkhand State Education Department and Doordarshan started online classes to provide school education to students (Class 1 to 12) of the state through video-thematic lectures with special slots allotted for each class.
  • It will go live on DD channel and free Dish TV from 10 am to  2 pm for five days a week.
  • Apart from this, the classes will be available on YouTube channel DD Jharkhand and DIGI SATH for uninterrupted access by the students as per their convenience.

Sample Registration System bulletin released by Registrar General of India:-
  • Sample Registration System (SRS) based on data collected for 2018 has been released by the Registrar General of India.
  • It is a demographic survey for providing estimates of infant mortality rate, birth rate, death rate and other indicators.
  • As per the report, National birth rate stood at 20 with Bihar at the top.
  • Death rate stood at 6.2 with Chhattisgarh at the top.
  • Madhya Pradesh has the worst infant mortality rate in the country while Nagaland has the best.
Defence Minister abolished 9,304 post in military engineering services:-
  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently approved the abolition of 9,304 posts in the military engineering services on the recommendation of Shekatar Committee.
  • The step is taken to enhance combat capability and rebalance defence expenditure of the Armed Forces.
  • The move will also equip MES with leaner workforce, well equipped to handle complex issues in the emerging scenario in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Bengaluru launches Pranavayu programme:-
  • Bengaluru city corporation has launched Pranavayu programme to create awareness on the need to self-examine the respiratory health of the people.
  • It is an attempt to help people with low oxygen level in their blood to get themselves checked early before their ailments become fatal.
  • The step is taken as several deaths due to COVID-19 are reported due to Severe Acute Respiratory illness (SARI).
  WHO and UN’s postal agency released postage stamp on smallpox:-
  • World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN’s postal agency have released a commemorative postage stamp on the 40th anniversary of the eradication of smallpox.
  • The stamp serves to honour people working together to eradicate smallpox.
  • The campaign for smallpox eradication was launched in 1967 through postage stamps.
  • Smallpox is an infectious disease caused by one of two virus variants, Variola major and Variola minor.
 Israel names a street after Rabindranath Tagore:-
         
  • Israel paid heartwarming tribute on the 159th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore by sharing a picture of a street named after him in Tel Aviv.
  • The street starts right opposite the main gates of Tel Aviv University.
  • The street was named “Rehov Tagore” where 'rehov' means street.
  • As a symbolic gesture of friendship with Israel, India renamed the iconic Teen Murti Chowk, a war memorial as Haifa during the visit of PM Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018.

  • Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced the launch of ‘Own-Online’, an online vehicle ownership solution that offers end-to-end sales experience for prospective buyers.
  • Mahindra’s pan-India network with the Own-Online platform through robust back-end technology & process cohesion.
  • Own-Online enables customers to finance, insure, exchange, accessorize and own a Mahindra vehicle, from home, in four steps to get ‘contactless’ delivery at the preferred location.
Former JDS MP Raja Rangappa Naik passes away:-
  • Former JDS MP Raja Rangappa Naik (61 years) passes away.
  • He had represented the Raichur constituency (Karnataka) in the Lok Sabha
  • He had strived hard for the development of Kalyana Karnataka (old Hyderabad-Karnataka region).
  • Naik was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996.

  • International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on May 12 across the world.
  • The day marks the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.
  • International Council of Nurses (ICN) commemorates this important day each year with the production and distribution of the International Nurses' Day (IND) resources and evidence.

SBI launches Arogya Sanjeevani health insurance policy:-
                        
  • SBI General Insurance launches Arogya Sanjeevani health insurance policy providing hospitalization cover of Rs 1 lakh to 5 lakhs across India.
  • This policy covers Life-long renewability, Road Ambulance Cover, AYUSH coverage, 5% of SI for each claim-free year, up to 50%, Pre and Post hospitalization expenses up to 30 and 60 days and OT expenses among others.
  • This policy has been designed with standard coverage and affordable premiums of IRDA.
